Dr Bronner’s: The Best Fluoride Free Toothpaste I’ve Tried
“Anise All-One Toothpaste.
Fluoride free & 70% Organic ingredients.
Helps freshen breath, whiten teeth and reduce plaque.”
I had wanted to try this toothpaste for a while but I am always slightly apprehensive when purchasing a natural toothpaste because I’ve had mixed feelings in the past. However, I was so pleasantly surprised with this product. There are some points to bare in mind before purchasing this product as it is very different to the way conventional toothpastes are. I think when switching to natural brands that are fluoride free, it may take a few brands or tries before you find one you like. So to read my thoughts and points to consider, keep reading.
The ingredients listed on this product include: Organic Glycerin, Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Hydrated Silica, Calcium Carbonate, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda), Potassium Cocoate (made with Organic Coconut Oil), Organic Illicium Verum (Anise) Seed Oil, Organic Mentha Arvensis (Menthol) Crystals, Organic Coconut Flour, Organic Coconut Oil, Tocopherol, Citric Acid, Organic Stevia Leaf/Stem Extract.
The Coconut Oil and Coconut Flour are from fair trade sources. The packaging explains the reason for the use of these ingredients. They are traditionally used for oral care within India. Combined together they create a gentle and effective cleanser. The Baking Soda used will help whiten the teeth and is another gentle cleanser.
Scent & Flavour
The scent of this product is very fresh, clean, and does smell strongly of the Anise Seed Oil as that is the scent of this particular product. The brand do offer many other scents which include the classic Peppermint, as well as Cinnamon. The flavour of this product is also very fresh, tastes like the Anise, yet has a sweet flavour which will come from the Stevia sweetener. The flavour leaves my mouth feeling very clean after every brush and I really like the Anise flavour for dental products.
Does it work?
This product works for me. The formula is low foaming and as a user I can really tell this as it doesn’t foam like conventional toothpastes do. The low foam makes it easier for me to brush my teeth for longer as I am not having to spit out the product as often. I feel like the formula really pulls the dirt and bacteria from my mouth as I am brushing.
This toothpaste keeps it’s fresh flavour whilst brushing even without foam, and keeps my mouth fresh after brushing for just as long as other conventional toothpastes do. What I love about this formula is how the flavour isn’t too strong for my mouth. My teeth don’t feel sensitive after using this product, and I never get ulcers like I do when using a toothpaste with fluoride in the ingredients. This toothpaste is great for anyone with a sensitive mouth like me. If you’re wondering why I don’t use fluoride toothpaste you can read about that here.
Why I like it
I like how this product tastes sweet but still really fresh; the Anise flavour is perfect for a toothpaste in my opinion. As mentioned above, I feel like this product pulls dirt and bacteria from mouth so my mouth feels extra clean after brushing. Again, the low foam formula makes it easier for me to brush my teeth for longer and is easier to see what you’r doing whilst brushing. My sensitive mouth loves this product as I don’t feel any irritation, it leaves me without any ulcers, and no worries about the chemicals that are being swallowed. The brand is cruelty free and vegan which is great and they use fair trade ingredients.
- Most expensive fluoride free & natural toothpaste that I’ve found.
- Is cheaper to buy from health food stores than from online.
- Stores that stock this product don’t always have the full range of the three flavours in the UK.
- I really love the packaging of this product which is 100% recyclable.
- I definitely recommend this toothpaste, but for a cheaper option see here for my Kingfisher review.
- The product lasts me around 2 months with two uses daily.
