Sea Salt Beach Wave Hair Mist
“A light mist formulated with natural sea salt to infuse all hair types with oceanic waves for a breezy texture.”
Admittedly, I wasn’t always a fan of beach style salt sprays. I had very long and very thick hair for years and found the sprays heavy, wet, sticky, and hugely frizz accentuating to almost unbearable levels. In short, I looked like I’d been dragged through a hedge backwards. However, now that I am the proud owner of a messy long bob I have been taking the deep end plunge into all things texture-ized. The messier the better is exactly how I feel my hair recently; gone are the perfect blow drying days for a sleek and bouncy salon look that took me 45 minutes a pop. So here is my first review on a salty hair product.
I cannot deny the packaging drew me directly into this one. The minimal, simple, sleek, expensive looking bottle had me at hello. I am a sucker for a great font (and get massively turned off by a bad one) and along with the illustration of the waves; this guy really gives the poetry girls a run for their imagery. Well, slightly. I will add though that the bottle is glass. It gives me all of the English seaside vibes that I grew up knowing so well. Yes, the nostalgia created by the aesthetic appeal created true love. Completely ignoring the fact the product was actually “Made in the USA”.
It was whilst browsing the beauty shelves for a natural steal in T K Maxx that I discovered this guy. The brand Pearlessence is one that I hadn’t heard of before but I bought it anyway after I saw that it was fully cruelty free and had all vegan ingredients.
How I Use It
I spray this stuff into wet or dry hair and pretty liberally. I haven’t found it to be overly weighted and heavy, and neither does it make my hair crunchy. The crunch would happen though if you really really go to town, but that being said I do like a lot. I have previously been using this spray after styling my hair into beachy waves with my curling wand. However, it is quite wet and it can cause the curls to lose a tiny bit of shape while the product dries. Right now, as I am typing this, I am trying a new air dry waves technique as shown by Ashley Streicher in a recent Byrdie tutorial: click here (p.s. I am obsessed with Byrdie.) The trick is to let the hair air dry naturally without brushing or touching it. I plan to spray this hair mist through the hair when it finally dries.
Update: this technique worked amazingly and my textured waves are insane. Highly recommend.
Scent
The scent of this is amazing. It smells like pineapple and coconuts with added sugary sweetness but not like a piña colada. It smells like you walked straight out of a hair salon with the perfect Summer tan and a hot new love interest. Strange. You just really need to smell this stuff if you like sweet and magical scents.
Feel & Finish
This product makes you feel like you have walked straight out of the ocean except it is slightly lighter in weight. It adds great texture to the hair and doesn’t feel too crunchy at the same time. The finished texture is quite gritty, which is what I personally wanted from this product as the grit helps to also add volume t the hair as well as keeping the hair in the desired shape/style. I find that if you add enough of this product to begin with, then it lasts all day and doesn’t have to be reapplied. Luckily, it is also easy to brush and wash out and doesn’t cause a massive amount of build up. What is also great is that even though it is quite wet on the hair initially, it doesn’t feel heavy when it dries. So I really do love this stuff.

Just to let you know, magnesium sulfate is a salt. So is sodium chloride–that’s table salt and salt in the sea. I found Google is helpful for research if I’m not familiar with something instead of assuming it’s bad right away…
How do you know its cruelty free? I tried to find any information about the company and I found nothing except your review.

It says it on the back of the product! However, it isn’t the official leaping bunny sign!
Just that? Well many companies label their products as cruelty free to attract customers. It’s often lies and when you read their policies they say “not tested unless requiered by law”. It could be a fake statement.

True. It’s your decision to believe it or not.
Anyway, thanks for help 🙂

You too! You’re right in your caution towards “cruelty free” products, and it’s great hearing from people with the same concern for the animals! So thank you for your comments 🙂
So how do you style your hair after spraying? Just bought it and was wondering.

I have a natural wave in my hair, so I let me hair dry naturally without brushing it. Then when at almost dry I spray it over my hair and scrunch it upwards like you would do with a mousse. Then I let it dry in the hair 🌿
